Glitz, Glam and Celebrations at this year’s Halifax Community Spirit Awards

Submitted by on July 19, 2013 – 8:59 amOne Comment

Last night, Berties of Elland played host to the Halifax Courier’s prestigious Community Spirit awards. The event was held to celebrate the unsung heroes of Calderdale; a chance for community-minded individuals, charities, voluntary organisations and businesses to enjoy the spotlight for the evening.

The award categories cover schools, charities, businesses and individuals, so all aspects of community life in Calderdale are given the opportunity for acknowledgment. The evening was a night to remember and a much-deserved showcase for the people who make Calderdale the caring and creative place we all know and love.

We at Suma were thrilled to be sponsoring the ‘Community Champion’ award this year. Out of
three very deserving nominees, Rachel Julian was announced as the Community Champion 2013. A resident of Todmorden, Rachel was recognised for her many fundraising efforts, particularly during the 2012 floods. Rachel commented that all the hard work is worth it because of the lovely and generous people that she gets to work with. It’s an honour for us to support such a generous and humble individual. Well done Rachel!

It was a really enjoyable and heartening ceremony which made us Suma delegates feel proud to be a Calderdale business!
