Upcycling, Green Day and T Shirt Dress
Childrens T-shirt dress
Last Thursday 24th June 2010 was ‘Green Day’ at Anastasia’s school. At first I thought how cool but probably inappropriate to be celebrating the UK tour of America’s finest punk band and imagined them singing Basket Case and American Idiot on the school stage. Actually it turned out to be about greening the planet- reduce, reuse and recycle. The children were told to wear green clothes. We had a look in the wardrobe and nothing suitable jumped out and it didn’t seem right to go out and buy something green for this so we got thinking and a few hours later, my Suma T shirt was in two pieces on the floor, de-seamed, cut to shape and with no sleeves. A few dress making pins, a quick try for fit, and with Laura’s sewing skills we had a kiddie sized fit ‘n’ flare Suma T shirt dress, in 100% fairtrade cotton and proudly labeled, NOT made in china. Sia wore this with pride at school a few days later.
