We’re delighted to announce that Suma has been named one of the eight winners of Sky TV’s AdSmart competition.

The Sky competition gives TV advertising time to small and medium sized businesses that are making a difference on sustainability and in their communities.

After a tough pitching process we are over the moon to win the spot for the North region, meaning we’ll receive a £20,000 TV advertising campaign on Sky, as well as support to create a top-notch TV advert.

According to the judges, Suma stood out for:

  • Our commitment to a plant-based and vegetarian products.
  • Aiming to reducing CO2 emissions by 90%.
  • Supporting community initiatives, including food banks, charities and local clean-ups.
  • An equal-wage model and strong advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights.

Rebecca Kinnard, who works in marketing and brand product development at Suma, said: “Winning the Local Hero’s Award means the world to us. As a worker-owned co-op, we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, from reducing CO2 emissions to supporting local communities. This recognition will allow us to further expand our efforts and make an even bigger impact.”

The advert, which will run later in the year, is a chance to put not just Suma on TV, but also highlight the worker co-op way of doing business to a whole different audience. Something made extra special as we’re in the midst of the UN’s International Year of Co-operatives.

Of all the eight businesses chosen, David Sanderson, Director of AdSmart Local and Development at Sky Media, said:

“These winning businesses are raising the bar for sustainability, proving that it’s possible to make a positive impact while scaling your business. We’re immensely proud to support these local heroes by helping them reach the right audiences with targeted regional advertising, enabling them to share their inspiring stories and drive real, transformative change.”
