Savoury and satisfying; Suma’s take on a vegetarian classic

Suma Nut Roast

Suma has always, always, always been a vegetarian company. For us, vegetarian food is sustainable, it’s ethical, it’s healthy, and it’s delicious. This is just how it’s always been for us – it’s in our genes.

We have been enjoying homemade vegetarian food in our canteen since the dawn of Suma. Nut Roast is a vegetarian classic, so as the number one supplier of vegetarian food in the U.K we felt that it was the next natural step to try and find a nut roast for you, so that’s what we’ve done.

After a long search, we’ve finally found a small family run company from close to the Welsh borders to make Suma Nut Roasts. They have been producing award winning gourmet nut roasts for more than ten years. It’s Bernadette’s company and as soon as we’d tasted what was coming out of her kitchen, we knew that these were the people to trust with making our nut roast.

Like Suma, their nut roast has its origins in the vegetarian movement of the late seventies as it was then that Bernadette’s mother-in-law created a vegetarian nut roast recipe for her son who’d just decided to go meat-free.

Fast-forward twenty years and this same recipe is used to make a big nut roast for a family New Year’s Eve Party to which Bernadette is invited. The delicious nut roast made quite an impression on Bernadette and the seeds of an idea began to grow.

Frustrated at the lack of good nut roasts available in the shops, Bernadette uses this original recipe, along with two new ones, and starts selling them in a local market. Her nephew designs a logo and a company is born.

We really did look for a long time to find them but it was worth the wait – Vegetarian Society recommended and critically acclaimed, what started as a small company is now going from strength to strength, with bigger premises a and string of fans around the U.K. We’re glad we found Bernadette and delighted that she agreed to work with us.
Suma Nut Roasts
The nut roasts she has created for us are a great addition to our store cupboard range – just like homemade but without the hassle. Nutritionally they are superb and as you’d expect from Suma, they contain no artificial additives.

Suma nut roasts are super versatile too; perfect hot as part of a traditional vegetarian roast dinner, cold alongside a healthy platter of salads, or in a sandwich with pickle as a snack if you are on the go.

Available in two different varieties, VF153 and VF154 – both are so easy to make, simply add water and bake in the oven. Packed full of nutritious nuts and delicious flavours, our nut roasts are savoury and satisfying, and are sure to be favourite all year round. Perfect for lunch, dinner or as a savoury snack – and of course Sunday lunch – or with all the trimmings during the festive period.
