Suma and Plunkett support small community groups

Plunkett Foundation and Suma Wholefoods are delighted to have agreed a supply deal exclusively for community co-operatives across the UK launching from the 1st September.

Aimed at community co-operative members of the Plunkett Foundation, the initiative will help support community co-operatives, particularly community-owned shops, to stock and sell more wholefood products within their everyday grocery ranges. The partnership will allow participating community co-operatives to benefit from Suma’s vast range of branded products, and also Divine Chocolates.

Plunkett foundation receive wholefoods from SumaCommunity-owned shops experienced a 6% growth and 1.9% like-for-like sales growth in 2013 alone. Suma was awarded Co-operative of Year 2014 in recognition of its excellence, innovation and ethics. This is a significant partnership which will celebrate greater co-operation within the co-operative retail sector.

Harriet English, Membership Officer at Plunkett Foundation, said, “The Plunkett Foundation is very excited to be launching this new partnership with Suma Wholefoods in line with the needs of our community co-operative members. Suma understands the community co-operative model and the positive impact these enterprises have on their local communities.”

As a workers’ co-operative, the community co-operative angle is an integral part of Suma’s everyday activities and subsequently our success. It provides the platform to achieve strategic input into the services that Plunkett provides for community co-operatives, and it provides communities with greater access to information and advice.
