Experts In Export, Meet the Suma Export Team.

Suma has been selling across the World for about 10 years. It all started quite quietly with a few customers. We only really began to take exporting seriously about five years ago and are now at the point where we’ve seen this part of our business grow to about 14% of total sales, a figure which continues to increase.

We now export to customers in forty countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Australasia. We also sell in conjunction with one of our customers, an export specialist – who sell a huge range of products all over the world.

Our pre-packed goods sell particularly well. We also see a lot of interest in products with a British origin – flour, cakes, biscuits, and of course, chocolate! Our beers sell well in Asia. Gluten-free, organic and fair-trade products are also very popular.

We attend lots of Trade Shows – in the UK the Natural Product Show in London, Food and Drink in Birmingham and IFE are all great for meeting potential customers from overseas.

We also have a stand at Biofach in Germany and find that visitors come from all over the world to this massive organic show. We’ve also attended shows in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Paris, Vienna, Cologne, Malmo and Oslo – very exotic and a long way from home!

For customers interested in buying from us, we can offer FCA and Exworks incoterms, as well as getting price quotes for DAP. We have close links with the local Chamber of Commerce, UKTI and FDEA, who are all great at giving advice and help with the certification and legal requirements for exporting.

We are a small team, normally just three people working each day. Between us we speak French, Spanish, Italian, German, Greek, Mandarin and Portuguese.

Each Team Member specialises in different areas and we try to visit our customers in those areas. This allows us to get to know the local market, learn what our customers like to sell and identify relevant new products, and importantly it helps us to build relationships that are as strong as though we are trading with someone who’s just around the corner!
