UK Coffee Week (7-13th April 2014) is the largest national campaign to bring together the coffee industry and coffee consumers with the aim of helping to bring clean water to coffee growing countries.
The campaign is looking to raise £100,000 to complete Project Waterfall, delivering clean water to the remote Mbulu district in Tanzania.

I’m a coffee shop – how can I get involved? Taking part in UK Coffee Week is absolutely FREE! All Project Waterfall ask is that you pledge to raise a minimum of just £100 in your coffee shop over the week. Their team will provide you with all the materials needed to make your shop stand out on the high street and let all your customers know you’re supporting the cause. The pack includes: bunting and banner, collection box, posters, chatterboxes for your coffee tables and more! To register visit

Don’t know your Yirgacheffe from your Equidad? Here at Suma, we stock a wide range of coffee. From ground, beans, decaff, nocaff, organic, Fairtrade, and many, many more. Here’s a guide to some of the different descriptions.

Feminino from Bolivian.
Women coffee producers are vital to world coffee production yet harsh gender inequalities, poverty and abuse are rampant in many coffee producing regions. Many women coffee producers have no rights or income and some, along with their children, are abandoned by their husbands. Produced by a women’s cooperative, the organic, 100% Café Femenino coffee possesses a delightfully rich body, balanced acidity and with enticing notes of caramel, dark chocolate and a hint of coriander spiciness. A syrupy smooth breakfast coffee, suitable for a range of coffee making equipment.


Equidad from Columbian
Roasted a little darker, this is a fantastically flavoursome coffee with notes of dark chocolate and toasted hazelnuts. The medium acidity and full body give the coffee a delightfully smooth flavour and lingering finish.
Produced against the breath-taking backdrop of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountain range, the shade grown, organic and Fairtrade certified coffee is carefully cultivated on small plots of land using traditional practices. Washed in the abundant mountain waters, the coffee parchment is then sun-dried in wooden boxes or typical patios before delivery to the local cooperative.

Yirgacheffe from Ethiopian
Probably the lightest of all coffees and is best enjoyed without milk. It has a distinguishing bergamot aroma and provides a delightfully light, zesty cup.
As the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia is regarded with great affection by enthusiasts and Yirgacheffe is perhaps the most exciting Arabica to be grown and processed here. “Yirgacheffe” is both the growing area – a sub region of the Sidamo district – and the representative name of this unique coffee.

Sumatra Gaya Highlands
Fantastic Fairtrade certified coffee from the KBQB cooperative. Gaya Highlands is our customers’ favourite coffee, making a balanced and chocolatey brew with a creamy texture. It’s bold enough for after dinner too. Roasted a touch darker, this is a particularly smooth, full bodied coffee with underlying herbal notes. It has great character and depth of flavour.

Swiss Water Decaf
The Swiss Water method of decaffeinating coffee is prized for preserving the aroma and flavour of the coffee without the use of any chemicals. With a darker, round chocolatey flavour along with good body, this coffee is very smooth and satisfying. An excellent decaff for all-day drinking, suitable for a range of coffee making equipment
