Meals that are good for People, the Planet, and Animal Welfare: Suma joins the Catering Mark Suppliers Scheme

Submitted by on July 3, 2013 – 1:29 pmNo Comment

Suma has made a commitment to help caterers provide meals that are healthy, environmentally friendly and support animal welfare by joining the Food for Life Catering Mark Suppliers Scheme.

The Catering Mark Suppliers Scheme, launched in December 2012 is the UK’s fastest growing best-practice scheme, bringing together ingredient wholesalers with caterers achieving the Food for Life Catering Mark.

The Mark is a guarantee from the Soil Association that issues that matter to people have been taken care of: healthiness, climate change and animal welfare. The bronze, silver and gold tiers reward caterers who use more fresh, seasonal, free range, healthy and organic ingredients. More details can be found on the Soil Association Website.

More than 600,000 meals that meet the Catering Mark standards are served in the UK every day. While it was initially launched into schools to address the issues highlighted by Jamie Oliver’s school food campaign, Catering Mark accreditation has expanded into hospitals, universities, nurseries and workplaces.

The growth of the Catering Mark has led to increasing demand for ingredient suppliers which can supply products that meet the requirements of this scheme.

We wholly support the principles of the Food for Life Catering Mark as suppliers of additive-free, organic and Fairtrade ingredients and look forward to working with caterers as they progress under the scheme.
