Field Fayre and Eighth Day stand out at the Natural and Organic Awards 2013

Back in April the Natural and Organic Awards brought together over 430 industry professionals to celebrate the standout brands and products of the year.

Field Fayre, a lovely organic shop in Ross-on-Wye, came level-pegging with Waitrose for joint runner-up position in the ‘Best Organic Retailer’ category at the awards. That’s quite an achievement considering Field Fayre are an independent store competing against a multinational business! Field Fayre was described by Rob Sexton, Chief Executive of the Soil Association, as ‘committed and passionate about what they do, and an example of how the independent sector is delivering growth for organics’.

Manchester Wholefood Shop and Café The Eighth Day were also recognised in the Natural and Organic Awards, taking home the coveted title of ‘Best Independent Retailer’. Like us, Eighth Day have operated as a worker-owned cooperative since the seventies and still maintain an equal pay structure. Congratulations to all of the Eighth Day Coop members on achieving this award.

People Power at Dyfi Wholefoods Shop, Wales

Back in January this year, eleven workers from the CAT Quarry Shop and Café in Machynlleth faced the prospect of unemployment as the business was forced to close for financial reasons. Undeterred by this turn of events, the workers pulled together to open up a new wholefood shop for the local Machynlleth community. Dyfi Wholefoods opened it’s doors on 29th March, and since then the business has been going from strength to strength thanks to lots of hard graft and support from the local people. It just goes to show what can be achieved if you pull together!

Happy Birthday Honeysuckle!

The shop was set up in 1978 by four friends, who have continued to trade from the same original premises ever since. For most of this time Honeysuckle have been getting their weekly order from Suma, so they are certainly one of our longest-standing customers!

Happy birthday and here’s to many more years of good trading and fun at Honeysuckle Wholefoods.
