Nappy Trials for Real Nappy Week

Submitted by on April 18, 2012 – 2:05 pmNo Comment

My name is Kari, I am on maternity leave from Suma with my first baby.

I was asked to trial Bambino Mio’s new Miosolo all-in-one nappies, during Real Nappy Week. My boy is 10 months old and wears reusable nappies (but not an all-in-one). He wears disposable nappies at night. We use a nappy washing service, so only normally wash the outer nappy wraps.

My first impressions of the nappy were really easy to use and fitted well. Ruben visited the seaside and was out and about for four hours, we found the nappy held the wet without making him red or sore.
Night time was the major change for us as we normally put him in disposables at night and don’t often need to change him. We used the Mio Solo range at night, but even using the Mioboost it didn’t quite cope with the particularly heavy wet nappy which he produced. It could be that a disposable wouldn’t have either and that he still would have woken and needed changing at 4am, couple of hours earlier than normal.

His grandma used terry towelling nappies on her kids and more recently used disposables on Ruben’s cousins. She found the Bambino Mio all-in-one simple and less daunting than the ones which need to folded and placed together. I think the all-in-one design is so similar to disposables, it is obvious how to use and doesn’t need explanation. It’s less off-putting to those who use them infrequently.

Washing was always going to be the big challenge for us. We used the Miofresh nappy sanitiser in with the normal washing powder. We found it worked well and we liked the Velcro covers and pull-out flap for easy drying. On a not too sunny day I risked a natural dry and it worked (it probably took as long to dry as a thick towel would).
