Ghanaian Cooperative Cocoa Farmers Pay Suma a Visit

Submitted by on March 28, 2012 – 3:51 pmNo Comment

In honour of Fairtrade Fortnight and the UN International Year of Cooperatives, we recently had a visit from Elias Mohammed and Agnes. They are both members of the Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative; the group that produce the cocoa for Divine’s incredible chocolate. They have come to the UK all the way from Ghana, so we were thrilled to have them with us!

Agnes and Elias answered our many questions and told us about their cocoa and how fair trade and coops really makes a difference to farmer’s lives. As if this weren’t excitement enough, we also had a group of children from the local school, Old Earth Primary, who came to visit. The children were keen to meet the cocoa farmers and learn more about the many benefits that Fairtrade brings to growers and communities. We were very pleased to have all these visitors to help us celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight; they certainly livened things up the Suma canteen!

If you’d like to learn more about the Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative, take a look at their website.
