Beckfoot School recently celebrated four years as Bradford’s first Fairtrade school.

“Beckfoot School recently celebrated four years as Bradford’s first Fairtrade school. Student members of the school’s Fairtrade group held a fairtrade New Year Party (pictured) and invited parents, teachers and pupils to enjoy fairtrade snacks, poems, drama, Zumba dancing and African drumming. Suma has supported the group since its beginning with raffle prizes and Fairtrade products to sell.

Suma member Bob Cannell’s son Laurie was a Fairtrade organiser at the school. Laurie said: ” People should ask for Fairtrade to encourage businesses to stock it. The Bradford Guide to Fairtrade shopping shows that Suma sells a lot more Fairtrade products than other distributors.” Bob said “Well, we and our fellow cooperatives have been promoting fair trade for longer than anyone else. But some of the other wholesalers and retailers could try harder.”

We are happy to support other schools to promote Fairtrade and ensure a better life for farmers and producers in developing countries whose products we enjoy in the west. You can find our Fairtrade products list under Resources on our website
