Huddersfield Support Group for Autism (HSGA) send a huge thank you to Suma for their donation of a toiletries hamper. Suma contributed significantly to a charity Curry Night and Raffle held in July at Cinnamon Lodge, Meltham and over £620 was raised to fund their play scheme for this year. The evening was organised by Harriet Ward, HSGA support worker.

HSGA is a self-help group for families in the Huddersfield area who are living with Autism. The group is a registered charity and is affiliated to The National Autistic Society.

HSGA runs a summer play scheme for 2 weeks over the summer holiday. This is for children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This play scheme has be run for over 10 years and can be the highlight of the holiday for many of the children accessing the scheme. The aim of the scheme is to enhance the lives of children with Autism and give their families a break during the long summer holidays. School holiday activities for Autistic children are not generally provided by the state or private sectors, as result isolation at home can occur.

Each year the scheme needs around £20,000, some of which comes from Kirklees Council and grants form organisations like the National Lottery and BBC Children in Need. Much of the money is generated by members through sponsored events and charity evenings.
