Suma Walking Group – Digley reservoir
Suma is a great community to be part of and work in and as a part of this I decided recently to set up the Suma Walking Group – a growing band of like minded individuals who enjoy getting together in the great outdoors one Sunday each month.
Our First Walk – Digley reservoir
Last Sunday’s walk from Digley reservoir in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley close to Holmfirth took us on to on Saddleworth Moor and definitely blew the cobwebs away particularly when we reached the top of the infamous Black Hill (much more accessible since the laying of the stone flagged path – and a great use for the heavy stone flags from the nearby redundant textile mills).
It was a chilly but dry and occasionally sunny afternoon with terrific views back across Holmfirth, Huddersfield and Emley Moor – we could almost see the cooling towers of Drax power station near Pontefract – not a pretty sight at any time but a testament to the extent of the view on a clear day.
There were seven of us in total and we all thoroughly enjoyed the walk except maybe Rhubarb the dog who might have preferred to spend the afternoon asleep on the sofa!!
